Doula Elizabeth Porter

My role and goal is to support you and your family emotionally,  physically and informationally, so that you can have the birth that you desire, either at home or in a hospital.

Covid-19 Updates in Practice:

In light of the new restrictions that we are all experiencing, including doulas not being allowed into many Labor and Delivery units, and in order to be as responsible as possible, I'm moving all my doula support to virtual options.  In this format, I am able to do almost everything I would normally do -- helping you find comfortable positions, giving reminders about rest/activity/hydration, providing guidance for relaxation and coping, and helping to answer questions or helping you get information from your care providers so that you can make informed decisions about your care.
I will host two prenatal Zoom visits and provide labor and delivery support via phone.

  • I meet virtually with you (at least) twice during your last trimester. We'll get to know each other. We discuss your ideas, dreams, hopes, plans and fears. We ask and answer questions. We explore what information you need to best prepare you for the upcoming event. We also discuss the various coping techniques and strategies that you can use during your labor.
  • I am available for email contact and consultation until your labor begins.
  • I am available for 24 hour phone access as appropriate throughout your labor and birth.
  • I follow-up via phone twice within three weeks of your baby's birth, unless otherwise arranged. I can be a resource by email during your early days (weeks, sometimes years!) of parenthood.

Also: experience, respect, reverence for the process, information, empathy, enthusiasm, joy, calmness, patience, flexibility, creative thinking and some humor.  I leave at the door:  judgment, ego, personal expectations, realistic sense of time, and any concerns other than your birth.

My desire is to help you to have the best birth experience that you can have.

" The best way to serve a woman during her pregnancy is to help her realize that she is her own authority and that a midwife or doctor or doula is only a paid consultant...a woman is her own best expert for her birth and her body knows exactly what to do if given the chance."- Carla Hartley
